Your Horses First Appointment

Equine Initial Assessment

Before any massage treatment takes place, every horse undergoes a thorough initial assessment. This ensures each treatment is both safe and specifically tailored to your horse’s individual needs.

We begin with a detailed consultation, discussing your horse’s medical history, workload, management routine, and any concerns you may have noticed — such as changes in performance, behaviour, or way of going. This allows us to build a complete picture of your horse’s overall condition and wellbeing.

This is followed by a visual assessment. Your horse will be observed at rest and, where possible, in movement, helping to identify any signs of stiffness, imbalance, or compensation. Posture, conformation, and movement patterns are carefully considered.

A hands-on palpation assessment is then carried out, using skilled touch to assess muscle tone, areas of tension, sensitivity, or discomfort. Range of motion and flexibility may also be gently evaluated. This stage is always performed calmly and with consideration for your horse’s comfort, allowing them to remain relaxed throughout.

The findings from this assessment guide the treatment, ensuring each session is targeted, appropriate, and adapted to your horse’s specific needs. It also provides a baseline to monitor progress and make informed adjustments over time.

Where necessary, veterinary consent will be requested to ensure the highest standard of care and safety for your horse.

The Initial Assessment is only required once, following session will be treatment only.
